Contestable fund for internet programming?
Why not call it NZOL - New Zealand Online.
The arts/museum/gallery/library world tried very hard to get this one to fly a couple of years ago. Maybe it's time for another go?

What? the dying embers of Victorian media should be subsidised by the taxpayers who don't actually want to buy them? Give us a break. First of all the NZ on Air funding is for cultural aspects of NZ broadcasting which would be unaffordable by standard commercial models - not for news - yes they gave some to Pop Idol culture of a sort I guess - so maybe if someone can launch a drama on the web fine but its not supposed to be for the news. Obviously Bernard Hickey didn't need the funding to break the story and get matchers from the rest of the lame never get out of the office media - unless its the trip to Takapuna beach/Lyall Bay to watch a tsunami break on the shore. Let the newspapers die if they can't break stories that would make people pay their outrageous cover prices. We'll find another medium for wrapping our chips in.

"Don’t expect mercy simply because you say you’re a bit tired and depressed about your job. We all are and saying so wouldn’t save us either".

Exactly. This faux depression could be instantly and miraclulously cured by a large Lotto win.

People like this aren't actually depressed, they are just suffering relative poverty to those around them. Which if we were more open about the plain fact money is the key to happiness because poverty caused by a crap job sucks, the world would be a better place.

(Expat)NZ On Air grant for that wisdom anyone?
